Vikings Full Moon Recap Season 5 Episode 7 – Vikings, “Full Moon” starts with Bjorn returning from his Mediterranean adventure to Kattegat to find that war is about to break out between his mother, Lagertha, and the forces of his half-brother Ivar and King Harald. He also finds that he has fallen out of love with his wife, Torvi, which turns out to be convenient because he fancies a foreign princess named Snaefrid, whose people have shown up to help Lagertha in the coming war. However, the young lady may be a little more than Bjorn can handle, with her love of bondage and stories of “half castration.”
In the meantime, Ubbe’s wife is attempting to get her husband to betray Lagertha and Bjorn and make himself king of Kattegat. Ubbe is not too sure of the wisdom of this strategy, however his wife is using sex to try to win him over. Later, Ubbe, Bjorn, and Lagertha discuss the strategy for the defense of Kattegat. Bjorn reminds one and all that Ivar never does the expected thing.
Harald is thrilled that his new wife, Astrid, is with child. He might not be too thrilled if he knew that the pregnancy might be the result of a gang rape that Astrid endured as the price of her betraying him.
Back in York,. Ivar plays chess with Heahmund and discusses diverse subjects such as the Virgin Mary and the strategy for taking Kattegat. Should they go by water or by land? What kind of game is the captured warrior bishop playing, anyway?
Alfred stops at the monastery that Ragnar Lothbrok first attacked all those many years ago and hears from the abbot the story of a monk who was kidnapped by the Vikings into slavery and had returned as an apostate. The young prince floats the idea of preaching the word of God in English rather than in Latin, anticipating Vatican II by a thousand years. Later, Alfred has a one-sided conversation with his dead father, musing how he cannot be as humble as Athelstan was.
Finally, Floki continues to lead his group of settlers in the far-off land that is likely Iceland. People are starting to grumble that they have been led into disaster and starvation. However, most are mollified when they arrive at the hot springs and see a geyser and thus a ready source of fresh water. Later, a young couple makes love in one of the hot springs and her resulting pregnancy presages hope for the fledgling colony and Floki’s hope for a new society.
