The Walking Dead Time for After Recap Season 8 Episode 7 – Where we last left off, Rick was locked in a container at the Scavengers yard while Daryl was off plotting his own plan to finish off Negan. Both of these plot points come to a resolution this week but for the most part this episode was all about the grey area Eugene’s allegiance is aligned with.
The Walking Dead Time for After Recap Season 8 Episode 7
Dwight and Eugene have an uneasy conversation about how they can move forward from the predicament they are in. Dwight is emboldened by the Saviors predicament and can see an end to Negan, but Eugene is fixated on not having hundreds of workers killed by the horde outside the Compound’s walls. It’s suspected that someone is a traitor and Eugene can easily rat Dwight out, but he keeps Dwight’s secret to himself and remains adamant about saving lives.
Negan sees potential in Eugene’s problem solving abilities and begins to treat him as an equal, which is symbolized by a firm handshake after learning of his plan to save the Compound. Eugene becomes almost childlike in his eagerness to impress him works hard to think of a plan to get the walkers away from the walls. He ends up creating a remote controlled glider fixed with an iPod that will play music and steer the walkers away. Before he puts his plan into action, he’s stopped by Dwight who holds him up at gunpoint. Dwight again tells Eugene that Negan is close to being defeated and pleads with him to stop helping him out. Dwight isn’t convinced though and still releases his glider into the air while being held up.
Dwight watches the glider fly about the walkers and fill the air with loud music. Instead of shooting Eugene, he shoots the glider down. When this happens, it’s also in the middle of Daryl’s plan to ram a truck into a wall and give the walkers an entry into the Compound. Before Daryl gets the truck ready, both Michonne & Rosita question the plan and try to talk Daryl out of it. They can’t convince him otherwise though and so he goes ahead with driving the truck into a wall.
The walkers quickly scramble into the building and cause immediate chaos inside. Savior generals try to fight them off but they to lose a lot of lives in the process. The lucky ones manage to climb to a top level and barricade themselves off from the walkers by forming a wall of finished walkers by the stairs. Negan runs into Eugene again and asks him what his plan is now, and Eugene quickly puts him at ease by telling him he’s got something big planned that will end the siege. Negan doesn’t even asks what it is and seems confident in his abilities.
While this scene is playing out, Rick is forced to battle another walker in the same pit he was placed in last season. This time he’s tied up and put in there with one leashed walker and three guards. Much to no one’s surprise, Rick manages to fight each one off and even pull Jadis onto the floor when she fails to shoot him. The Saviors all watch while Rick holds a gun to her head while the walker’s biting jaws is inches away. He allows her to live but not without getting her to agree to a new deal.
The episode ends with Rick, Jadis, and a few of her people arriving to the Compound. This time it’s not how Rick left it and he seems utterly shocked at the sight of a truck rammed into the wall and no walkers left surrounding the gates. It’s unclear if he know’s it was Daryl’s work that did this, but next week is the mid-season finale and it seems likely a major event will unfold.
