Barbra The Music, The Mem’ries, The Magic – I couldn’t have more respect for Barbra Streisand. I may not agree with all of her views but there’s no denying the goosebumps and the emotional wave that occurs when she declares “but it’s the laughter…we will remember…whenever we remember…the way we were.”
Barbra The Music, The Mem’ries, The Magic
Barbra takes the stage in Miami at the end of a 13-city tour for this Netflix spectacular. As the Netflix promo page points out “With nearly a dozen No. 1 albums, Streisand also belongs to a select club who have won an Emmy, Grammy, Oscar and Tony.” It is an incredible feat.
Streisand is a rare talent and a national treasure. There simply isn’t anyone else like her.
The Netflix special will delight Barbra’s fans. But then, I can’t imagine anyone that it wouldn’t delight. I particularly enjoyed Streisand’s stories, her history, her “mem’ries”.
Barbra promote her new book – which promises a chapter on a chair. Only Streisand can pull off making that intriguing. She also promotes her album, Encore, a collection of duets with Hollywood actors – but she makes that delightful too. There’s a snippet with Melissa McCarthy who comments, “I heard you had a Starbucks in your house and all the employees have to wear cashmere…” The album includes a cut with Hugh Jackman, “I got to sing with Wolverine,” says Streisand, “and I thought I had long nails.”
The sets are representative of her multi-faceted career, her ease with multiple genres, and are wonderfully satisfying. Streisand always seems like she’s singing a song for the first time. The set lists include The Way We Were, Being at War With Each Other, You Don’t Bring Me Flowers, Evergreen, Papa Can You Hear Me?, People, and more.
