The Walking Dead Monsters Recap Season 8 Episode 3 – Episode three picks up with the tense standoff between Rick and Morales, and to the delight of those not looking forward to long story arch with a forgotten character, it doesn’t last long.
The Walking Dead Monsters Recap Season 8 Episode 3
The two discuss what’s happened to them in the time since Atlanta and Rick realizes that at one point they had a lot in common. Both lost parts of their family, but unlike Rick, Morales wasn’t able to get back his composure and turned to the Saviors to give his life purpose. Just when Rick seems to take pity on him, an arrow pierces threw Morales’s neck. Rick seems startled by it and explains to Daryl who that was but Daryl dismisses him by telling him he knew and it didn’t matter one bit. Rick seems a little taken aback by Daryl’s cold words but moves on to search for the weapons.
Over with the group from the Kingdom, Ezekiel continues to motivate his group by telling them they will not lose a single one from their ranks. Carol seems to be warming up to Ezekiel’s leadership and so does everyone else. Ezekiel’s routine might be something people see through, but it also seems to be effective. As they advance on a guard post, they are ambushed by the Saviors but they counterattack them and prove Ezekiel’s words true by eliminating a few dozen foes without losing one of their own. At this moment it seems things around according to plan.
While this is going on Jesus tries to convince Morgan they are doing the right thing by letting the Saviors surrender. Morgan can’t believe they are marching with the Saviors but goes along with it, perhaps convinced Maggie will tell Jesus he did the wrong thing when they reach the Hilltop. During the march back a group of walkers attacks them and the Savior prisoners are let loose during the scuffle. Morgan hunts them down and even shoots one when he finds them cornered. When this happens, Jesus stops him and ignites a fight between the two of them. Though they battle it out, they end it with Jesus getting his way. In his words, they kill but they don’t execute.
Back at the Hilltop Gregory pleads with the gatekeepers to let him in. Though Maggie chides him for being a traitor, she lets him in. When Jesus and Morgan arrive she has to make a decision on what to do with the recaptured Saviors. She sides with Jesus on this one and lets the prisoners in though she clearly isn’t comfortable with it. Even Gregory admits they shouldn’t be let inside but Maggie is a different kind of leader than him and goes with her gut instinct that things will be okay.
Though things seems to be going well Rick and Daryl weren’t able to find the weapons. In fact along the search it seems there is a growing rift occurring between the two since Daryl seems to have turned into a complete killing machine. Rick reaches Aaron who is despondent over the loss of partner, but in a sign of life moving on Rick gives the baby he found with Morales over to him to care for it.
The final scene of the episode takes place with Ezekiel and his group as they reach the guard post. It seems abandoned, but when they let their guard down a browning machine gun mows them down. It’s not clear who is shot, but it’s obvious they finally lost some group members.
