Outlander First Wife Season 3 Episode 8 Recap — I have to admit: it’s become extremely disappointing to review Outlander as of late, in part because while the ratings for the show have never been better, the actual show itself has proven to be one big let-down after another. The so-called “print shop” episode — titled “A Malcolm” for the series — was advertised as “the hottest reunion, like, ever” but proved to be one big “meh” in terms of “hotness.” (And there were more than a few fans that felt let down by the episode, as well.)
This has also proven to be the point in the story where The Ballad of Jamie and Claire veers off course, going from the fantastic, to the suspension of reality, to the absolutely ridiculous.
Outlander First Wife Season 3 Episode 8 Recap
So, Claire — after claiming that she “totally expected Jamie to have a life” — suddenly realizes what, precisely, the impact of “having a life” means, and in this case, it means that Jamie has gotten himself a second wife in the form of Laoghaire (pronounced “Leery,” derided in the fandom as “Leg Hair,” and played by the gorgeous Nell Hudson, who is made to look ragged beyond her years).
And the reason this has made the story cross the line into the absolutely ridiculous is because there is no way on Earth that Jamie WOULDN’T tell Claire “yeah, like you, I’ve been married to another person after we were separated by a few decades, a war, and those ridiculous stones,” especially since he already had no problem telling her about his love child with Geneva Dunsaney. And the fact that Jamie responded “you’re the one who told me to be kind to the lass!” made me laugh so hard, I almost fell off the couch. WTF?!
Naturally, Laoghaire shoots Jamie in the arm for good measure (because, really, WTF Jamie?), thereby giving Saint Claire the opportunity to administer the world’s first dose of penicillin EVER. Ugh.
Yeah, Outlander is starting to show its true colors as being little more than a historical romance (or, if you prefer, “bodice ripper“). It’s getting really grating. Bring on Vikings, please.
