Outlander Creme de Menthe Recap Season 3 Episode 7
In the meantime, Claire, much to Jamie’s exasperation, wants to save Barton’s life. She goes to the apothecary to get the medical supplies she needs to perform a trepanning procedure to relieve pressure on his brain. Claire meets a man named Archibald Campbell at the apothecary who is there to buy medicine for his ailing sister. She persuades him to give up his place in line with the promise that she will come around and treat the unfortunate girl.
In the meantime, Fergus and Ian get rid of the casks, finding a willing buyer for most of the whisky with a few casks of crème de menthe thrown in. Afterwards, the two repair to a nearby tavern to celebrate and talk about starting their own business, which turns to Fergus giving Ian advice on how to get to know girls. Later, taking Fergus’ advice, Ian chats up a bar maid named Bridget. She is charmed by the callow lad and agrees to go with him to Jamie’s print shop for a nice tryst.
Back in the brothel room. Claire desperately tries to save Barton’s life. She is unsuccessful and tells Jamie that he had gotten his wish that he is dead. They commiserate for a few minutes until Claire leaves for her appointment with the Campbells. It turns out that Margaret Campbell has a mental disorder. Claire prescribes mistletoe tea and valerian to calm her and, upon finding out they are bound for the West Indies, advises that she eat plenty of fruit.
When Claire returns to the brothel room, Jamie informs her that Barton’s body has been concealed in one of the casks of crème de menthe, apparently not realizing that it already has a buyer. Then the two start to discuss a change in living arrangements, with Claire pointing out that she could bring in extra money as a healer, using her 20th century knowledge. The discussion is interrupted by the arrival of Ian’s father, who is beside himself that his son has run away. Jamie lies to the man and tells him that he has not seen the lad.
After the father leaves, Claire and Jamie have a fight over his lying to Ian’s father. The discussion turns to Jamie’s resentment about not getting to be a proper father to Brianna, still in the 20th century, and the fact that Claire let her out in public in that indecent bikini. The argument is interrupted by the news that a fire has broken out at the print shop.
Ian and Bridget are making love in one of the back rooms of the print shop when they are interrupted by someone breaking in. While Bridget leaves by a back door, Ian confronts the man. They fight. Ian is knocked unconscious. A fire starts. The man flees.
Jamie rescues Ian from the print shop. He determines that the intruder is another henchman in the employ of Sir Percival and that he likely saw some of the seditious pamphlets he was printing. Edinburgh is now too hot for him, and it is time to return to Lallybroch.
