Pretty Little Liars Power Play Season 7 Episode 14 Recap – Susan Lucci… Here We Come
PLL has been here with us all through so many phases in our life… and perhaps, we all entered the final stages of grief last night as we all realized just how much we have grown over these 7 seasons – and just how much the actresses have too. In this overly-soapy episode where the actresses seem DONE at moments, I couldn’t help but laugh at plot points that weren’t really all that funny. However, thanks to an episode packed with revelations, I am thankful that as we near the finale, we are finally getting answers that count.
Pretty Little Liars Power Play Season 7 Episode 14 Recap
Ezra, Aria and A.D… Oh, My.
The episode prior to Power Play left us dangling by a thread and wondering why Nicole was in Ezra’s apartment looking like a feral cat. Tonight, we learned that she was going to the last place that felt like home, ditching the mental health facilities she had been attending and finding herself in a pickle. Aria explains to Ezra that Nicole is already asleep in his bed and then, she leaves.
When Aria returns, Ezra’s book has been thrown all along the floor. Apparently, Nicole threw it at her parents. Her therapist had thought that keeping change and new revelations to a minimum was good for Nicole, but since she saw Aria’s wedding dress in the closet, she figured it all out and took off for New York again. Ezra tells Aria that despite Nicole being back, it changes nothing about how he feels for her and that he will stop being a crappy fiancé. I will look forward to that day.
It’s So Grown Up… To Race Your Bike in the Middle of the Street Without Helmets.
Paige has had a really hard time watching Alison and Emily interact at work. Now, she is thinking that she may take a job with Ohio State as their coach just to get away. To help her decide, Emily and Paige race their bikes to the Applewood Grill. Paige slams on her breaks and I think that she just got hit by a car driven by A.D. or the ghost of all Emily’s old girlfriends…
But no such luck here.
Instead, she has just remembered why she loves Rosewood – Emily is here. So, she kisses her and decides to stay… in Rosewood AND in the middle of the street.
It’s Your Turn, Alison.
Paige snooped inside Alison’s book and found an appointment card for an abortion. Alison gets SUPER pissed, as she should, and storms off. Since A.D. seems to know all, it’s her turn to play and she is told to go to a baby boutique and register 10 items. She does and its understandably tough. On her way out, the saleslady hands Alison a bag with the item she put “on hold for the donor.” It is an ugly necklace that says, “EMILY.”
Alison gets super dizzy and flashes back to a Welby moment where she was wheeled out of her room by someone other than Archer. She remembers a procedure and realizes that she has been impregnated with the eggs A.D. stole from Emily. I can’t help but laugh… especially when Spencer explains it to Aria in a blatant “just in case the audience doesn’t get it” move. I sit patiently and wait for Susan Luci to pop out of a closet or announce that she is now out of her coma as Spencer’s other other-mother.
Hanna and Spencer = Nancy Drew.
Hanna and Spencer have gone to look for Mary Drake after Spencer has a run in with her dad. After going through his briefcase, she sees that both he and her mother were in town an entire week while she suffered with a gunshot wound before checking on her. Mr. Hastings reveals that they were trying to keep Mary away. He goes on to say that Mary was last in town when Spencer came home from rehab. (Remember creepy-Miss-D creeping in her room behind her? That was Mary.)
Peter recalls Mary telling him how beautiful Spencer was in a flashback, but he tells Spencer that she was out for revenge after learning that Charles didn’t die, he just became CeCe. I can’t tell what kind of revenge Mary had in mind. The flashback was a little confusing.
Looking for Mary around the neighborhood, they happen upon Pastor Ted’s house who says that he hasn’t seen Mary. However, we see her in the door as the girls leave. Pastor Ted goes to Hanna’s the next day, drinking a beer in a very un-Ted move, and tells her that Mary had been staying at his house for two days. Mary was an old girlfriend from his senior year and she came by to tell him that CeCe was his child. As it turned out, he knew Charles when he led a camp for troubled boys… and his best friend was Lucas. He asked Hanna if she knew Lucas and she said, “You are sitting on his couch.”
Aria’s Wants Out
A.D. calls Aria on some creepy Skype thing with voice changing capabilities. He has her therapy file and tells her that if Ezra knew about what was in her file… he’d pick Nicole. Sweet goodness… what’s in the file?! We don’t discover that tonight, but it must be pretty crazy because Aria calls A.D. and says “I WANT OUT.”
Enter the limousine that A.D. has used for season seven.
Aria gets in the car and down comes a hoodie. It’s Sydney. I am ready to throw my cat… but I won’t, because I love my cat. What the hell does Sydney have to do with anything?! She had better not be the ring leader.
Phew. Aria recognizes an ear piece in Sydney’s ear. Someone is feeding her lines. A.D. can’t trust Aria just yet. He needs to watch her a while. When she returns to the other girls, Alison and Emily are really struggling with the reveal that Alison is pregnant with Emily’s baby. The gameboard’s phone begins to shuffle the faces of the girls from high school. The game skips Aria. Hanna melts down because once again it lands on her. (This is really reminiscent of actual high school when A seemed to pick on Hanna the worst.) Spencer says that maybe the game is broken, but Alison looks knowingly at Aria, “The game knows what it is doing.”
The episode ends with A.D. texting Aria – “Have you decided yet?”
The teaser for the upcoming episode shows us Aria back in the red coat. Did Aria try to get out of the game once before? Has A been targeting everyone in town? I can’t wait to see where this is heading. I have to say that I would be disappointed by an “it’s the whole town” reveal. Let’s hope for an ending that makes us eager to rewatch… not use our DVDs of the series as table leg proppers.
