The Expanse Here There Be Dragons Season 2 Episode 11 Recap
On Earth, Bobby Draper escapes from her quarters once again and beats the truth out of her superior officer, Captain Martens. Martens admits that the incident on Ganymede that trashed the station and took out both a unit of Earth Marines and Draper’s own Martian Marines was the result of an experiment with a protomolecule weapon. Enraged by the betrayal and now under peril for her life for assaulting an officer, Martens is actually annoyed at Draper for being angry.
Draper runs and asks for political asylum on Earth, agreeing to tell Chrisjen Avasarala all she knows. This development will serve the wily politician in good stead when she has her meeting with Jules-Pierre Mao, who is now keen to avoid jail.
Meanwhile, on Ganymede, Holdren, Naomi, Amos, and Meng hunt for Meng’s little girl Mei, who is being half cajoled, half distracted to go with Dr. Strickland to a pickup point where she and other children with compromised immune systems are being spirited away from Ganymede. Our heroes discover, to their horror, that Mei is being used as part of a plot to create monsters that can be used as killing machines using the protomolecule.
Holdren and company are too late to recover Mei but discover the incinerated body of a dead child and a dying scientist who informs them of what is going on. While Holdren resolves to go after the kidnappers, Naomi decides to stay on Ganymede to help rescue as many people as she can before the station collapses. Alex, piloting the Rocinante, performs a brilliant maneuver using thrusters and gravity assists from Jupiter’s various moons to penetrate the blockade and land on Ganymede to pick up our heroes.
Finally, in Venus orbit, the research ship gets a probe on the planet’s surface to send back images of something growing at the Eos crash site. What that glowing blue thing is they have no clue, but it looks ominous.
