Wayne Industries decides to host the Wayne Innovation Contest. A $100,000 prize will be awarded to the employee that invents something “that embodies the human spirit.” As soon as the contest is announced, two employees from another division, Zane and Anton, come to talk smack to Emily’s division.
Emily can’t take the idea that she might be managing a team of nobodies and forces Teddy to enter in his heat gloves. These gloves emit heat at an adjustable temperature and can be used to do anything from defrost a frozen car door handle or pop a bag of popcorn.
Teddy notices that not ALL popcorn kernels get popped and immediately begins to think that his invention’s not good enough and needs to get better. Emily, thinking this will make him feel better, enters the gloves into the contest anyway.
She finds out that previously Teddy had entered into a contest, and it soon took over his entire life. When he didn’t win, he had a mental breakdown. Emily, worried that she’s sent Teddy back into breakdown mode, she tells him that he’s made it into the finals (even though there isn’t a finals).
Emily finds out that Zane and Anton won the contest and rushes home to see if Teddy is ok. His family is there for his brother’s going away party…he’s going to space because he’s a space doctor. Teddy didn’t know yet that he had not won, so his family finds out at the same time. And again, Teddy feels like he’s inferior to his handsome space doctor brother. And throws himself into a depressive state.
But by the end of the show, Crimson Fox ends up needing to use his gloves to save the day from some icy villains. And Teddy realizes he’s not worthless and can make something useful.
So again, the show is not terrible. It’s not amazing either. The humor is actually getting better, and the acting is noticeably lacking. It’s hard to watch actors you know can do a better job struggling with an ok script.
